INL leads project that supports the rapid development of solutions against COVID-19 in 2 years

Call for projects starts today [November 2], looking for quick solutions in the fight against the new coronavirus.

INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, leads a European project of 6.1 million euros that aims to promote the commercialization of new products at European level to combat the new coronavirus, with the support from a European network of different industrial and technological partners.

The consortium of 11 partners will support up to 30 projects to test and validate applications in various areas, from medical technologies, environmental surveillance systems, sensors, health worker protection, artificial intelligence and data mining.

INNO4COV-19 will invest half of the available budget in direct support to about 30 companies selected through an open call that takes place in 3 different phases during the first year of the project.

Mariana Fernandes, the coordinator of INNO4COV-19, believes that the initiative will be a fundamental tool to boost the emergence of strategies and technologies to combat COVID-19 in the short and medium-term. "Our ultimate goal is to find and support new solutions that better prepare Europe and its citizens for possible pandemics that we may have to face in the future."

Each selected project will get an investment of up to € 100,000, benefiting at the same time from technical, legal and business support from the entire consortium.

The call opens today, November 2, and will conclude the first phase of applications at the end of the month, on November 30.

The project will promote an informative webinar on November 12 at 10:00 GMT, in which INL will present the call and the application conditions.
